Football for development
The aim of the project Football for development is not just play football, but more rather to have a chance to speak about development issues and life of youth in slums in Kenya in this informal way. Football plays a crucial role in their lives, it can help them to get out of poverty and cultivate not just individual players, but also society as a whole.
The core of the project includes a raising-awareness campaign, taking place every June and connected to a 3-weeks visit of a mixed youth team from Nairobi in different regions of the Czech Republic. Apart from football and cultural public events, local highschools are intensively involved in the programme – students participate in Czech-Kenyan seminars of development education, movie screenings and discussions, they organize a photo exhibition (from Nairobi) at school and host their Kenyan peers at home.
Since 2006, the Kenyan team visited Prague, Olomouc, Rýmařov, Bruntál, Vrbno p. Pradědem, Most, Brno, Opava, Kostelecké Horky and other towns. The project can be realized thanks to the grant of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Strategic partners of the project are a media agency Eurorscg (Havas Sport&Entertainment) and The Football Association of the Czech Republic. Apart from it, the project is supported by a number of other institutions (Siemens, Football Academy of Josef Masopust in Most etc.). Inex – Association for Voluntary Activities organizes the project in cooperation with a Nairobian NGO Mathare Youth Sport Association (MYSA) and a network of Czech NGOs associated in the campaign Czechia agaist Poverty.
Thanks to its enourmous popularity and social-integrating potential, football is used as a tool for development projects and work with youngsters all over the world. Streetfootballworld, the global platform of football-for-development projects, is an umbrella organization for some 80 projects from 5 continents and regularly cooperates with the Czech Football for development, too.
